  1. With a paring knife, trim cut end of fiddle head fern.
  2. Rinse ferns well under water, gently rubbing away any papery brown husks.
  3. In a medium pot, bring water to a boil. Add more water if needed - just enough to cover bottom of pot and no more than 1/4 inch deep.
  4. Add prepared fiddleheads to boiling water, cover and steam for 3-5 minutes. Fiddleheads should be bright green and tender crips.
  5. Drain and serve. Optional - add a small pat of butter or margarine, a squeeze of fresh lemon and a dash of pepper!
