As part of LEAF® WMC’s ongoing commitment to supporting individuals living with obesity, we are involved in research projects with partners in the healthcare community. Our participation in these projects helps our community benefit from the knowledge gained for the promotion of healthy weight management strategies. It also means that our clients who agree to participate in one of our research projects can sometimes benefit from reduced costs of participating in LEAF® WMC programs.

Participation in LEAF® Research Programs Benefits Many
If you have had a Total Joint Assessment Clinic assessment, you may be eligible to participate in a funded LEAF® BLOOM program. This program is part of the BLOOM-FORWARD research study that will help us evaluate the benefit of a comprehensive weight loss program before total joint replacement. Participation in this study is voluntary and withdrawal is possible at any time. To determine if you are a candidate, you must be able to answer “yes” to the following questions:
• You have been assessed at the Total Joint Assessment Clinic (TJAC) and have been recommended to participate in the BLOOM program.• Your Primary Care Provider (Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner) has faxed a referral to LEAF® requesting that you participate in the BLOOM program.
• You attend an information session (through ZOOM) that will be organized by LEAF® and agree to terms of participation in the funded program.

LEAF® BLOOM and Pre-Orthopaedic Surgery
If you’ve reviewed the research criteria and found you are not eligible, LEAF® BLOOM is still a great option for you.
LEAF® BLOOM is designed to help individuals lose weight in preparation for orthopaedic surgery. It is a virtual weight loss program with medical supervision and treatment from a weight loss physician specialist. Each participant receives a personalized weight-loss program that helps them achieve their health and weight.
